The
Final. Friday 29th July 2011.
Again I was up at around 6.30 and my son Jonathan
drove me to Taunton station for the 8.18 train up to
Paddington. The usual (getting blase now lol)
chauffeur driven car took me to the studios. As soon
as I got there I felt totally relaxed, almost as if
I'd done it a million times before. I met the other
two finalists and we exchanged our experiences of
the last 8 days over coffee |

The
Green room. At around 11.30 we were taken to the
main studio to rehearse for the show and then it was
off to the 'green room' to film a short 'final
plea' which would be aired at around 12.45,
giving the public a final chance to vote. Once we
finished our videos, we were allowed to relax (yeah
right) and have a few glasses of champagne whilst
waiting for the show to begin. |

The
live final. The show began at 12.30 and we were
still in the 'green room' watching on the monitor
waiting to be shown to the public. We did several
shots, raising our glasses etc and were again left
to 'relax' for 5 minutes before being called down to
the 'live' studio. |

The Announcement.
We were asked to stand just behind the screen off stage as we'd
rehearsed earlier in the day. Lawrence, Terry and I were each given
a bunch of flowers to give to Sherrie and then we were shown 'live'
to the public waiting for the result. After what seemed an eternity
Kate (Thornton, the show's anchor) said "and
the winner is...................John". OMG, what a truly amazing
moment, one that's very hard to put into words. I shook the hands of
the two other guys and went to the top of the stairs where I was
greeted by the most amazing cheer from the studio audience, I bowed
(as you do lol) and took my seat next to Sherrie at the Loose Women
desk. Now that was a fun experience. I probably said a few
inappropriate things, but everyone seamed to enjoy it and within a
few minutes the show was all over. We all went to the ITV foyer for
photos and some lunch and then I was shown to my car (don't you just
love it) and taken to the Park Plaza Hotel, overlooking Westminster
bridge, where I was given a luxurious studio room with dinner and
breakfast. Just fabulous:) |
